PLACED! - John & Gertrude

Hello Expectant Parents,

Our names are John and Gertrude, and we understand that you are considering placing your baby for adoption.  We would be honored if you would consider us as a potential adoptive parents for your baby.  More than anything, we want to become parents - to raise children in a home surrounded with love and many opportunities and traditions.

We have been together as a couple for over eight years, and married for about four and a half.  Years ago, before we were even engaged or married, we would imagine ourselves as parents, raising many children and passing on our traditions and values to them.  We have always wanted to be parents and we feel in our hearts that the Lord intends for us to be parents, through adoption.  We have the means to raise a child in a comfortable, loving home with lots of family support and spiritual guidance.  Family is the most important part of our lives, and we look forward with hope to build our own family through adoption.

About John

John is 28 years old, and he loves being an uncle, but there is nothing that he wants more than to be a father.  He has such a kind and gentle spirit, and he has so much love to give a child.  Whenever there is a family get-together where our nieces and nephews are around, he’s the one in the back yard playing games with them, teaching them how to do something new, or just reading to them.  He’s always been a family man, who values his relationship with his family, and he is looking forward to sharing that love and support with our children some day.  John will be a very involved dad, and looks forward to teaching our children how to play one of the instruments that he has learned over the years like the trumpet and guitar, or even learn a new instrument together, since he has always wanted to learn to play the drums.  He’s also looking forward to coaching our children’s soccer or hockey team – or whichever sport our child may find an interest in.

About Gertrude

Gertrude is 27 years old, and she is a wonderful example of patience, love and spirituality.  She has been hoping and dreaming about starting a family since the day we got married. Last year, she had the honor of becoming our new nephew’s Godmother.  This experience touched her heart, since she loves children, and her soul yearns to be a mother.  She has taught Sunday School for years and loves being around young children - teaching them prayers and spiritual values, and of course, having fun with the class!  Not only does she have a passion for teaching Sunday School, she loves cooking.  Something she looks forward to about being a mother, is sharing her recipes with our child – the same way she received these recipes from her mother and grandmother.  To Gertrude, baking and cooking with our child will be more than just teaching how to do these things, but passing on a piece of herself to our child.

About Us

We consider our lifestyle to be comfortable and fun.  John works full time as an IT Manager, and Gertrude currently works full time as a Licensed Insurance Producer.  Right now we both work, but Gertrude plans to become a stay at home mom when the time comes.  It is very important to us that Gertrude will be able to be at home with our children as they grow and learn – to do this in our home, not in a daycare center.  We are very close with both sides of our families, and spend a lot of our time with all of them.  Our weekends usually consist of at least one visit to either of our parents, and maybe a dinner out with some of our brothers, sisters or cousins. Our hobbies range from gardening and “DIY” home improvements to participation in our church’s “Young Adult” functions and charity fund raisers, as well as traveling.  Our favorite trip was to Italy last year.  It was our first time traveling to Europe, and learning a different culture and language was so fulfilling for us.  We hope to return some day with our children.  Other things we love to do is to attend local sporting events, and we enjoy going to the autumn cornfield maze at the farm down the road from our house, which we’ve gone to every year since we were dating.  Going to the beach is a standard weekend activity for us in the summertime.  Our family has a house right on the water, and we love taking the boat for a ride, and enjoying sunny days by the water with our family.  In the wintertime, our favorite occasion is going to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.  It’s a tradition that Gertrude’s family hasd done while she was a child, and now the two of us continue that tradition today, and look forward to sharing this with our children.  New York City is so magical during the holidays!

Since we have been making plans to start a family, we recently moved into a 4 bedroom Cape Cod style home with a huge back yard that our two little dogs absolutely love – they are friendly, playful little Westies.  Our home is in a quiet cul-de-sac neighborhood that is always buzzing with other children on the block playing, or waiting at the school bus stop at the end of the road.  We know that this neighborhood will have many playmates for our children throughout the years.  Since we love to cook and bake, the kitchen in this house really suits our needs – plenty of workspace, storage and new appliances.  The huge backyard is like a blank canvas to us, where we just planted our first vegetable garden, and we have noticed the perfect tree to hang a swing from someday.  We can just envision our family growing in this home.

Our Family

Both of us come from large, loving, Irish and Italian Christian families.  Gertrude’s parents and most of her extended family live within a five minute drive from our home.  We know that having this support nearby with a young child will be helpful.  It’s great to be able to see our family on such a regular basis, and to know that they’re just a few minutes away when someone pulls together a last minute Friday movie night.  John’s extended family is so supportive and fun.  With young nieces and nephews, there’s never a family get together without the excitement of the little ones’ jumping and giggling.  They’re so much fun!

Since both of us grew up in a similar family style, we have a lot of similar values and traditions that we can’t wait to pass along to our own family.  Christmas is our favorite holiday, especially because we get to spend a lot of time with our family, like baking holiday cookies and decorating the Christmas tree together.  When we were engaged, the two of us started our own little tradition with our Christmas tree.  Each year, with our Christmas gifts, we also exchange an ornament for the tree.  Each of us gives the other an ornament that symbolizes a significant event of the past year, whether it is from a place that we visited on vacation that year, or a symbol of a big event that happened that year.  Now, every year when we decorate our tree, we see all of the ornaments we’ve exchanged, and have a chance to fondly reminisce together, and think about our future together, which will hopefully include adopting a baby.

We definitely plan to be open with our child right from the beginning, about having been adopted, and to always talk about it in an open and loving manner.   We would like to let our child know that the decision to be placed for adoption was made in their best interest, and that there has been nothing but love for this child, from every person involved.   It is our top priority to help our child understand how much love was put into making an adoption plan for him or her.

We thank you for reading our letter, and considering us as adoptive parents for your baby.  We imagine that this must be an incredibly difficult decision for you to make.  We hope that you’ve been able to get a feeling about who we are and our lifestyle through this letter, and that you might consider placing your baby with us.  Our hearts are ready to become parents, and we look forward to building our family through adoption.

Sincerely,

John & Gertrude
